She manages a public affairs team that handles media relations, writes and designs internal and external publications, manages the internal and external Web sites, builds community on-line and in person and provides general information to the public and others.
She joined the office in July 2014 after working for the Washington Attorney General’s Office for nine years.
She has worked as Communications Director for Attorney General Bob Ferguson, Deputy Chief of Staff and Communications Director for Attorney General Rob McKenna, legislative director for the Washington State Grange, Senate Republican Caucus Communications Director, Press Secretary for Gubernatorial Candidate Dino Rossi and Executive Communications Program Manager for Microsoft.
Accredited in Public Relations, Janelle is a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Board of Ethics and Professional Standards and the PRSA Puget Sound Membership Committee. She previously served as Chair of the PRSA National District Council and member of the National Nominating Committee. She was the 2011 Chair of the PRSA North Pacific District, 2008 President of the PRSA Puget Sound Chapter and past chair of both the Olympia Communicators Group and the South Sound PRSA group.
She is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Olympia and a passionate supporter of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Washington State University and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. She has served as captain of her Relay for Life team since 2013.
She previously volunteered with the YMCA Youth in Government Program, has served on both the Thurston County and Washington State Combined Fund Drive (workplace giving) Committees and organized the state Senate United Way Day of Caring Team.
She was named to the Business Examiner’s 2010 40-under-40 Class, has won several public relations awards and was honored as the American Legislative Exchange Council’s 2004 Volunteer of the Year.
She and her husband live in Tumwater.
